It’s May yet again, and here we are at the start of yet another exciting year. Pierian Spring is already bubbling with action and this time the activities for the academic year begins with a rather interesting theme – doomsday literature.
Of late, you might have noticed the surge in scientific doomsday literature. Apart from religious predictions and scientific catastrophic theories like the coming to the end of the Mayan Calendar, Geomagnetic Reversal, Nibiru collision etc., other very interesting plots and approaches have been used in some of the acclaimed doomsday literature.
Literary works like “Lucifer’s Hammer” by Larry Niven and Jerry Pournelle, “Oryx and Crake” by Margaret Atwood “Blindness” by Jose Saramago and “Worldwarz” by Max Brooks leave you spellbound with their completely new perception of doomsday and the post apocalyptic world. I recently flipped through “I am Legend” by Richard Matheson and was bowled over!
Here is a chance for those inquisitive literary minds to come together and share your views on any of the doomsday literature. The workshop on doomsday literature will be held on 21st and 22nd of May but meanwhile, I urge you to read on and gear up to participate.
