The Centre for Social Action (CSA), is back for the new academic year 2011-2012 WITH A BANG!!! As ever, the sole priority of our association is the upliftment and bearing of our social responsibilities.
THE ZERO WASTE CAMPAIGN—- in an attempt to promote a clean and hygienic society, CJC has initiated the zero waste campaign.
Two dustbins in the college campus were labelled as ‘dry waste’ and ‘wet waste’ respectively. During the previous year, students were oriented to the procedure of segregating the waste. As true christites, we, students actively took part in this new attempt to achieve a zero waste zone!!
The paper waste that is generated, is processed by our college paper recycling unit. These workers who process the waste are also patronized by the CSA in an attempt to provide employment to the poor. After rigorous processing and work, lucrative and bio friendly handmade papers are created. The workers sell these papers along with files, photoframes and various other useful items. These earnings help them generate a regular and steady income.
The campus also houses a compost unit. Here, food waste, after segregation is mixed with bioinoculum and water in 1:1 ratio that forms compost. This serves as organic fertilizer for all the plants in the campus. The manures is also sold at the rate of just rupees four per kg!!
We believe that these small steps of ours shall certainly make a social impact. As our slogan goes, we earnestly hope and believe that TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE A CHANGE!!!
