~UnItY~

Each one of us is a free bird…
Free to do whatever we want…
Free to fly…free to be free…
Free to live.

But then they came.
The aliens that would tie us down…cage us…bind us in chains…
They ruled over us for two hundred years.
Forcing us to labour under the blazing sun…
Invading our dreams as we slept under the moon…
It was painful to live.

In those times we were scattered…
None of us had the will to fight against them…
Fight? We didn’t have the will to live even…

Every time a brave soul tried to fight against one of them,
He would be struck down like an annoying pest.
And we would watch…and do nothing.

It was the sensible thing to do, we thought…
But it was nothing more than cowardice.

We were afraid…we were separate…
Eventually we lost hope that we would ever be the free birds we once were…

But then, He came…
The ray of light we were waiting for!
The light that would start as a little dot at first,
but then grow bigger and brighter till it shatters the darkness completely!

Oh! How we longed for it!
How we rejoiced when he united us against them!
We fought together…we won…
We looked up to him like a God.

They left. After two hundred years of suffering under them…they finally left.
We won back our freedom…our lives…
We leaned on Him for leadership and he gave us just that,
He led us to a new era of peace…liberty…equality…
We are united.
We are one.
We are, once more, the free birds we once were…

Although, now, they exist only in books…their greatness captured on various pages…we must embrace the fact that they gave us our independence.
They gave us our country. We celebrate independence day for that very reason…to remember how we fought, how we united against the British.
And, how we won.
When I see our beloved India now, I feel as though we are separate…we must learn that Muslims, Christians and Hindus and every other person belonging to other castes and religions, are nothing but human, just as we are…
When i came to Christ college, i felt elated that so many people from all over India, all over the world even! are studying under the same roof.
Our country has a long way to go…but it will get there soon enough…once we realize the fact that our freedom fighters fought for a united and strong country.
We can bring down the strongest of foes, with nothing more than strong bonds between us. A better word would simply be “Unity.”
thank you..:)
