So it’s that time of the year again, Colossus kicks off in full swing and we just wrapped up our first event, The Business Plan. This event had a total of 24 teams with 4 people in each team which is a great number showing the interest of the people from various classes.
The event was conducted over the span of two days. Ten teams were called on Friday and the rest of the 14 participated on Saturday. Day 1 had the topic of Eradicating Social Problems in the City while Day 2’s topic was Healthcare solutions for Unorganised Sector.
This event had the main motive of testing the creativity of the participants by giving them a topic and asking them to come up with a B-Plan along these lines. The Plan specifically had to solve a problem. The participants were asked to create a B-Plan constituting the following –
1. The Idea
2. A Pitch Statement – The most important statement that explains the business in a single sentence.
3. Unique Selling Proposition(USP) – A factor that separates the business from the rest of the field.
4. SWOT analysis – An analysis of the Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats of the Business.
5. Advertisement Campaign – A creative advertisement that best portrayed their idea and would help sell it.
After fifteen whole minutes of preparation time, the participants were given 6 minutes to present the idea which was followed by scrutiny and criticism by the judges. It was a great experience as it helped the participants to learn how to deal with the tough questions asked by the panel and also for the judges to see who did the best.
All the teams did really well, I personally know some of the ideas that were put forward which were just great, for example, one team came up with a taxi service that solely employed lady drivers which ensured the safety for other women in the city. Another team came up with an idea to empower the third gender in the city creating employment for them and giving them acceptance. This just goes to show what a creative set of students we are in the midst of and how these events bring the best out of them.
It was easily one of the most interesting experiences of my life and I’m sure all the participants are taking back a lot from this event, wishing all the participants the best of luck. The results will be posted shortly. Stay tuned for more.
