“Freedom is hammered out on the anvil of discussion, dissent, and debate.”
– Hubert H. Humphrey
On 28th June, a few hearts might have been broken, but doesn’t that happen every debate?
Spectrum, the Social Science Association conducted a debate on “should the media be more gender sensitive?”, which drew a good participation, especially from the 1st year students. From “sensitivity in terms of what clothes women wear should be enforced in media as this will reduce the rates of rape,” in defence of the topic to “it’s not media that’s wrong, it’s our mindset and as long as people see films like Dirty Picture with this mentality, crimes against women will occur, irrespective of media being sensitive,” in offence of the topic, there were extreme stances and shaking lines that shook the judges due to the calibre and dedication of the students.
The results of this brilliant debate are keenly awaited!
