On 5th of June, 2015, Prerana, the language club, had organised a documentary screening and discussion with national award winning director, Sri. Kesari Haravoo. The documentary, titled ‘Aghanashini mattu makkalu’ was one based on the river Aghanashini, in the Uttara Kannada district of Karnataka, and the people dependent on her for their economic sustenance. The film was part of a successful campaign against the government’s plan of building a power plant on the estuary. The film also enlightened many minds about the bio-diversity and ecological importance of the estuary. Sri. Kesari Haravoo also answered questions put forward by students. The program was a great experience, and it instilled in students a sense of responsibility towards our country’s national wealth, and inspired us to think of issues concerning the ecology and economy of the land.
