Film making is the embodiment of cinematic art. A documentary film is a motion picture with its roots in reality. As a part of their next Current Affairs project, the students of I PU Arts Sections had the rare opportunity to interact with the media studies students of Christ University on the art of documentary-making. Two documentaries on very different themes were screened for the benefit of the students and for them to appreciate the nuances of cinematography. A searching discussion on the importance of choosing concepts, finding source material and researching ensued. The technical aspects of the art were simplified and explained with suggestions on the use of cameras and audio recording. This was followed by an interactive session where students were given the opportunity to pitch their ideas for documentaries and invited to collaborate with their seniors. All in all, the session was as illuminating as it was instructive and offered students a new perspective on the art of film-making.
