VISIT TO THE INDIAN INSTITUTE OF SCIENCE

Brief History

India Institute of science is a Premier institute in Bangalore. It’s a nurturing ground for scientists and research and provides an opportunity for anyone who wishes to pursue research about any field of science and technology. It has a vivid policy and a great paternity towards anyone who wishes to do research to benefit the country as well as mankind as a whole

Purpose of visit

We visited the Indian Institute of Science to know about the advanced research done here towards climate change and the effect it has on India and the world as a whole. We learnt about the science through which the biological diversity and the ecosystem is analyzed and arranged in a systematic manner for further research and analysis. Mainly we visited the Biology department and the Climate study department of the institute.

Learning Outcome

In the biology department we were introduced to methods of studying the biological aspects of the country, for example: the study of the amount and variety of species and the details of such a species in the country and the world. After knowing the different ecosystems in the country we were introduced how many of these species and preserved in the campus itself. The campus itself is a very diverse ecosystem which is very much man-made but has a lot of different plant and animal species. Then there is a department where almost all the plants species present in the state of Karnataka are made into genotypes and stored in a library like place. The information about each of these species is available in website the URL is attached at the end of this report.

Next we were introduced to how the climate change is creating an adverse effect on the ecosystem and the species of the country and the world. Even a small change in temperature or weather change can cause a very adverse and a very bad effect on the environment.

In the Climate Study Department we were given a presentation on how and what are the changes in climate and how to deal with it. The institute has a perfect and a detailed analysis on the climate of the country. I was astonished about the detailed presentation but at the same time I was worried that in a small period of time the world may not exist the way we know it today. The graphs and detailed reports gave us a very clear and concise idea how the climate has changed through a span of about 100 years now and also struck a thought in almost each one of us towards the gravity and the intensity of the situation we are already in and we might end up of we do not take proper steps and action toward the climate of our country and the world.
