WHODUNNIT! – Murder Mystery Competition

Whodunnit! – a murder mystery competition was conducted on 15 September 2023 by Prakruti- The Eco Club. It was conducted for Ⅰ PUC and ⅠⅠ PUC students. This event aimed to bring out the inner Sherlock in each participant. Participants worked together in teams of 3 and solved the mystery around the given scene. A total of 3 fun-filled rounds were conducted and participants moved on to the next round by deciphering the hints.

Experimental Rocketry workshop

                                        

On the 23 and 24 of August 2023, the Science Forum of Christ Junior College conducted a two-day experimental rocketry workshop for science students of I and II PUC. The workshop’s objective was to educate the students on theoretical knowledge and help them build experimental rockets entirely from scratch. Under the guidance of Ms. Nikitha, Mr. Kannan and Mr. Bharath from Genex Space, students received comprehensive theoretical insights into rockets and rocket propulsion, including the chemistry of propellants. They gained hands-on experience in designing and building a Type C rocket, and they also successfully launched their prototypes. The workshop provided an unforgettable experience, opening up pathways for students to explore diverse career prospects within the space industry.

Multilingual Competitions 

On 1 September Prerana, the Language Association, conducted four events – Sanskrit Image Description, Hindi Lokgeet, Janapada Geethe Matthu Bhava Geethe and Quiz Français.

Sanskrit Image Description 

55 participants gave life to Sanskrit imagery with their emotive utterances, displaying the continued relevance of the lingo. Sanskrit, often saluted as the root of all languages, preserved this ancestral legacy.

Hindi Lokgeet

Emerging singers filled the room with their splendid voices, the students sung songs from different genres with transitions from movie songs to bhajans. The judge for the event was Ayushi Vishwakarma who is pursuing a degree at Christ University.

Janapada Geethe Matthu Bhava Geethe

The Janapada Geethe Matthu Bhava Geethe competition saw an amalgamation of Kannada folk songs and poetry recitation. The judges were Ms Siri Gowri, renowned backup singer and Mr Anup Shrivasta, eminent keyboardist and awardee of Hamsalekha Award.

‘Quiz Français’ 

A French quiz covering various aspects of the French language, history, and traditions was conducted by Prerana. This event was a testament to the students’ dedication to learning and embracing the French language and culture. Ms.Anjali Mathulla, French Lecturer, Christ Junior College, was the judge.

PARIVARTHANA PAPER-MAKING WORKSHOP

Ten CSA volunteers from I and II PU classes attended a 11-hour workshop with Parivarthana to gain hands-on papermaking experience and help the deserving cause of environmental sustainability. The workshop was held from August 28 to September 1 for I PU CSA volunteers and from September 4 to September 15 for II PU CSA volunteers. The volunteers participated in various aspects of the papermaking process, from collecting recyclable materials to sorting and processing them into pulp. They learned the intricate steps that transform waste into beautiful, sustainable paper products. It was eye-opening to witness how Parivarthana’s commitment to recycling could turn discarded items into valuable resources. Moreover, they had the opportunity to collaborate with like-minded individuals who shared the same enthusiasm for conservation. It was inspiring to see the positive impact of their efforts as people became more aware of their role in preserving the environment. Through their experience with Parivarthana, they developed a profound appreciation for the art of papermaking and a heightened sense of responsibility towards our planet. It reinforced the belief that small, collective actions can lead to significant change. Volunteering with Parivarthana allowed them to gain practical skills and empowered each of them to be stewards of environmental conservation in their daily lives.

Bhasha Sourabha

Celebrating Languages and Culture

The Department of Languages of Christ Junior College conducted Bhasha Sourabha: Janapada Jatre on 8th September 2023, celebrating the rich diversity of languages as ‘Language Day’. With an objective of creating awareness for culture and languages among the students and faculty of the institution, the day witnessed different folk dance performances, an exhibition comprising 12 projects and four activities related to French, Kannada, Sanskrit and Hindi. The 70 students were trained by choreographers in the traditional folk art forms of Kamsale, Bhoothakola, Kangilu, Pooja, Patta, Halakikunitha, etc,  that are home to the state of Karnataka. The exhibition of projects focussed on the languages and those cultures that lost their prominence over the course of years. Extensive research and comparative study was carried out on the same through interviews on dance, food styles and lifestyles of the people of the community in focus.

 ‘Page to Stage’ (Intercollegiate)

Theatre is the art of looking at ourselves  ~Augusto Boal

To celebrate the spirit of theatre, the Department of English at Christ Junior College organised ‘Page to Stage’, an inter-collegiate competition on 12 September 2023. Twelve teams participated and showcased their thoughtful and witty scripts in a memorable manner by bringing chapters from the II PU English textbook to life on stage, in their own adaptations and interpretations . The judges for the function were Ms Veena Devi and Mr Abhinav Jaison, both avid lovers of theatre. The amalgamation of the drama and dance, the lights and music, the costumes and props, is the perfect formula to a captivating performance. This approach to a monotonous textbook, helps students remember a chapter and its different perspectives in a fun and delightful way. While doing so, it also exposes the students to the world of theatrics and widens their skill set.

‘Page to Stage’ (Intracollegiate)

The curtains rose, the lights dimmed and the stage came alive with a burst of artistry as Christ Junior College conducted its intra-collegiate theater competition- ‘Page to Stage’ on 4th September 2023 at the  K.E Auditorium. A tapestry of thespian excellence, this event conceived by the Department of English, now in its tenth year, unfurled its wings to soar new heights. It showcased the indomitable spirit of our students in the world of dramatic arts. Brought forth to flaunt the fidelity, innovation, perseverance and teamwork of budding theater enthusiasts of our college, it was indeed a veritable feast for the senses, a harmonious fusion of talent and intellect that bore witness to the various abilities of our collegiate community. The competition kicked off with performances by the II PU students in the forenoon followed by I PU students, who adapted and interpreted their English course book into captivating dramas. Each performance was unique and showcased the actors’ ability to bring their characters to life and smoothly transition between scenes.

Workshop on Artificial Intelligence

The Department of Physics, Electronics and Computer Science of Christ Junior College organized a workshop on Artificial Intelligence (AI) to commemorate ‘70 years of AI’ on 2nd September 2023.  Students from Government PU Colleges of Adugodi and Madiwala along with their teachers participated in the same, amounting to a strength of 120.  Mr Arjun Rao and Ms Shreya Bhatnakar, product managers of ABB (ASEA Brown Boveri)  Ltd., a Swedish-Swiss multinational company specializing in electrification and automation, were the resource persons of the day. The interactive workshop aimed to provide students with a basic understanding of AI technology and its applications along with the conduct of a quiz and hands-on activities such as building a simple machine-learning model to find the price of a car. It also covered topics of deep learning like Neural Networks and Natural Language Processing, that explored the deciphering of languages through AI.

Teacher’s Day Celebrations

On September 5 2023, Christ Junior College celebrated ‘Teachers’ Day’ to honour and show gratitude to the teachers of the institution. The programme commenced with a solemn procession of teachers, followed by an invocation hymn by the College Choir. The welcome address was given by the SWO Student Coordinator, Aamie Aljo. The principal, Rev. Dr. Fr. Sebastian Mathai addressed the gathering and felicitated students who had won in various competitions and teachers who had won in the events organized for them in connection with this day. .Following this, the teachers stunned the audience with breathtaking performances of an action song and a dance. A dance by the SWO student volunteers followed the same.

MULTI-LANGUAGE BOOK REVIEW

On 19 August 2023 the Language Association Prerana held a memorable book review session which marked the diversity of four languages: Hindi, Kannada, Sanskrit and French. This event was unique in the way it invited individuals to interact with the books.

For Hindi and Kannada speakers, participants articulated their reflections through written composition. The written form provided them an opportunity to hone their writing skills and exhibit their points of view poetically. Sanskrit and French reviews were expressed orally. Participants in these languages expressed their opinions and insights verbally, creating a dynamic atmosphere filled with lively discussions. Prerana presented a unique mix of written and uttered expressions, demonstrating the various ways languages can link to literature. The event showcased how literature is a basic language that transcends cultural boundaries and brings delight when shared.
